Sony Xperia Mint details leaked

XperiaMintLeak-900-75

Another well stocked high-end smartphone

Details of another Sony handset have made their way onto the web, this time surrounding the Sony Xperia Mint.
We first got wind of the Mint name back in January, when a leaked roadmap of Sony handsets for 2012 turned up, with the Mint pegged for a September arrival and a price tag of 562€ (around £440/$680).
According to Russian site Mobile-review, the Xperia Mint (or Xperia ST30p as it's also known) packs a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 4.3-inch HD (1280x720) display, Android Ice Cream Sandwich, a decent sounding 13MP camera with LED flash and micro SD slot.
IFA arrival?
The Xperia Mint looks to slide into Sony's handset range alongside the Xperia S (and Xperia Ion in the US), which sport a similar array of specifications, so similar in fact we struggle to see why we'd need the Mint at all.
This could well be an indication that it won't be making its way over to the UK or US, with Sony focussing the Xperia Mint on other markets instead – but it's likely to make an appearance at IFA 2012 in September, so keep an eye out for more information.
We've contacted Sony asking for more information on the Xperia Mint and we'll update this article once we hear back.

Sony Teases The Next Xperia Handset With An Interactive Countdown

Each click advances countdown a bit; has reduced by almost 24 hours till now.

After releasing the Xperia S, U, and P, it appears that Sony still has one more Xperia handset ready to be unveiled. To spice things up, Sony's official Facebook page has hosted an interactive countdown that can be advanced by users by clicking on it.

Surprisingly, in just a few hours, Sony fans have managed to move forward the announcement from 22nd June to 21st. This is impressive, since each fan is only allowed to click the "Fast Forward" button once a day via their FB account. According to the company, more than 4,200 visitors have participated so far. At this pace, expect the date to come even closer.

Apart from this teaser, Sony is also running a contest where winners will be awarded the next Xperia phone. Whether you like Sony's smartphones or not, if you want to try your luck, click this link to enter the contest.

Xperia X10 Gingerbread Update May Be Out This Week

The 2.3 update is said to bring a bunch of new features.

Sony Ericsson recently showed off the features that are going to come with the Gingerbread update for the Xperia X10. The company mentioned that the update will be rolled out during August, but it now seems that SE will provide the update earlier than expected. SE mentioned on its Facebook page that the update could be provided before the end of this week. A company representative mentioned that the Android 2.3 update for the Xperia X10 could be provided during w30 (Week 30) i.e. 25th July to 31st July.

It is however quite unclear if this is in reference only to the unlocked X10 handsets, or the contracted versions that is found in other countries. The fact that Sony Ericsson is ready to roll out the update this week seems pretty enticing, though it is quite possible that there could be an indefinite delay for the update to finally roll out. However, you might just get the update before others if you turn out to be lucky.

The Xperia X10 was launched with Android 1.6 Donut, but an Android 2.1 update was provided after the launch. SE had angered users when it had initially announced that it will not provide the Gingerbread update for the handset. It seems to have rethought the matter and finally announced in March that the 2.3 update will indeed be rolled out for X10 handsets. Features such as Facebook Inside Xperia will come to the handset, bringing deep social networking integration. All in all the transition from Eclair to Gingerbread is going to be a very pleasant one for the users. The update could be rolled out any time from now. Fingers crossed.

Forget Slates: Sony’s Android Tablets Come in Funky Shapes

Sony is betting you’ll buy one of its upcoming tablets for one big reason: They look like nothing you’ve seen before.

Codenamed the “S1″ and “S2″ for now, Sony’s two unreleased Android tablets depart from the usual square, flat slabs we’ve seen so far in 2011. Instead, the S2 design comes as a dual-screen, clamshell device, while the S1 is similar to many current tablets with one significant deviation — its funky, wedge-shaped form factor, which tapers from one end to the other.
